Currently a lot of our staff and students rely on USB sticks to save and backup their school work. But what happens if a student loses their memory stick and all their coursework with it? And what if you want to access your work on an iPad? As a solution to all of this, every student and member of staff has been set up with a Lagan College Google Drive account with unlimited storage space. Google Drive lets you save all of your work online where it can be accessed from any PC/Mac or iPad. It also can never be 'lost', so your work is much more secure than only relying a USB stick! To find out how to log into your Google Drive, check out our Google Drive section on TeacherTec. Don't abandon your USB sticks straight away however, as we always recommend making sure that you have your most important files backed up in at least two places, just in case! Please be sure to make all of your students aware that they have a Google Drive account as it might save them from losing hours of work on a lost USB stick in the future!
Have you ever wanted to quickly send some photos from your iPad to someone else's, but can't be bothered attaching them to an email or uploading them to Google Drive? iPad's have a built in feature called AirDrop that allows you to directly transfer photos from one iPad to another and it couldn't be simpler to use.
You could use this in a class to send or receive work directly from a your iPad to a student's if it's something that isn't relevant to your Google Classroom or Showbie Class! Check out the first of our TeacherTec Tips videos and let us know in the comments if you'd like to see more like this! Normally our training sessions take place in F34, however for all of the iBooks training sessions we will be meeting in the Music Mac Suite instead as we need access to Macs in order to run iBooks Author. We've contacted everyone who has already signed up so far, but we'd appreciate if you could let anyone else know about the room change who is planning to attend :) We have decided to add a password to get access to our Tutorials section on the website. This is a temporary measure whilst we investigate how to best protect our original content from being copied and potentially monetised without our permission. We have sent the current Tutorials password to Lagan College staff in the first TeacherTec Update email. We'd also appreciate if for the time being that you don't share this password with others outside of the Lagan College staff. Hello everyone, and welcome to the brand new TeacherTec 2.0! John & Peter :) The iPad can do so many amazing things, it won't be long before it's able to make us a cup of tea. As we've been exploring new ways to use Technology in our lessons, two very capable apps have emerged that promise to help you create a totally paperless classroom. Google Classroom and Showbie both set out to make the transfer of work from teachers to students a breeze and are very similar in many ways. Both let you set up 'virtual classrooms' and give you a unique 'class code' for your students to join. They also can both be accessed from any PC or Mac and also have iPad apps. But which is right for you in your classroom? Read on to find out! |
