For the past year, Lagan College has been using Meraki as tool to manage all of the iPads in our school. Whilst this has served us well, there have been concerns that we haven't been able to address using our current system.

Teachers want to be able to stop students playing games or using the camera in the classroom when they aren't supposed to be. Parents share the same types of concerns for when their son or daughter is at home. Teacher's and Parents both want more control over the iPad's, and we are finally able to provide that with our new iPad Management System - ZuluDesk.

What is ZuluDesk, and how can it benefit you in the classroom or at home? Read on to find out!

Teachers

  • AppLock - If you decide that your lesson is going to be based around a particular app like Showbie or iBooks, now you can lock all of the iPad's in your classroom into that app and your students won't be able to sneak into their games instead

  • WebLock - Using the WebLock, students can only visit websites the teacher has allowed them to visit. This can be useful if you want to let the students read or write an article about something and you want them to access only a certain website, or want to take an online test.

  • Restrictions - Now you have full control over the extra features of the iPads in your classroom, so you can decide to turn off access to the camera's or switch off iMessage whilst you are teaching your lesson

Parents

  • AppLock - With AppLock you can lock your child's iPad into one specific app, meaning it won't be possible to switch to other apps (for example games, Facebook, etc). The iPad will also mute all notifications when in AppLock mode (for example text messages), focus guaranteed!

  • WebLock - With WebLock, you can lock your child in Safari and set a list of sites that can only be visited. For example, you could only allow bbc.co.uk/education for a specific period of time to let your son or daughter revise without the risk of him/her being distracted by friends using Facebook, iMessage, etc.

  • Restrictions - Using the restrictions feature, you can restrict the use of certain functionality of the device. For example, you can disable iMessage and FaceTime for a period of 15 minutes to make sure your son or daughter won’t be distracted by receiving calls or messages from friends.
