How has Google Classroom changed how you teach your subject?
Google Classroom has revolutionised the delivery of Moving Image Arts. Class tasks and homeworks can be set up as assignments with deadlines, with clear instructions and examples for pupils to review and download if they wish. My classes usually have to submit large movie files which they can upload directly onto Google Classroom. I no longer have to carry ten or more pen drives! To prepare for exams, I either upload short film clips from my computer or link to YouTube clips for them to analyse and submit a written response Both myself and pupils can access these files and assignments anywhere there is an Internet connection. Instant and accessible sharing of files! Brilliant!
Have you encountered any issues whilst using Google Classroom?
Not really. I suppose because I am timetabled in a computer and/or Mac suite, I use it as much as possible and everyday. Whilst you might think you would be limited if your pupils are not sitting in front of a computer in your class, as a teacher you can still use Google Classroom to instantly outline class tasks and set homeworks for pupils to submit from home.
What advice would you give to somebody who was trying Google Classroom for the first time?
Get someone to go through the basics so you know how to upload files and set up classes etc *cough cough* . The rest is pretty straight forward and easy to learn by doing. It has made my teaching life so much easier!
